REGIONAL NETWORK, KRMJ, Channel 18 in Grand Junction, Colorado

by Laura Sampson, Founder of Station’s Archived Memories (SAM)*

KRMJ-TV, Channel 18, has been part of the Rocky Mountain PBS family since 1996.  Expanding the reach of Rocky Mountain PBS by creating a full-power public television station on the Western Slope was recognized as a vital investment in the economic and educational future of the region.  KRMJ serves Western Slope communities from the Roaring Fork Valley to Durango.

Thanks to strong community support on the Western Slope, KRMJ was built from the ground up under the leadership of former Rocky Mountain PBS General Manager, James Morgese.

Please take a moment to view the 90-second video produced in 1996 which features clips of enthusiastic Western Colorado residents welcoming KRMJ, Channel 18, to their area.

On November 18, 1997, the Grand Junction community received its first official look at the new Channel 18 studio located in the Tilman Bishop Campus of Western Colorado Community College.  The Open House activities included a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Chamber of Commerce followed by a media luncheon.  A reception was held later that evening for friends and supporters.

As a community outlet for the regional network of Rocky Mountain PBS, KRMJ provides exceptional programming, educational services, production and videoconferencing services to the Grand Valley community and the Western Slope.

With an experienced and professional staff, KRMJ provides broadcast, production, satellite and teleconference services. The KRMJ studio is co-located with Colorado Mesa University's television studio and the KRMJ business office is located at 890 Hall Ave., sharing space with Colorado Public Radio in historic downtown Grand Junction.
